12/27/2023 0 Comments Windows 10 virtual pc xp modeI notice I can download Windows 7 Virtual PC.IS this what I need to install? If I install Windows 7 Virtual PC will it corrupt the existing "Windows Virtual PC XP Mode" app? I also cannot get them to see the Windows 7 C: drive as I can when running Windows Virtual PC Them as far as disk size and memory allocation, because there is no "Virtual PC Manager" installed in the "My Virtual Machines" folder as in Windows XP pc. They run okay, and I was able to install some of the integration features, but I cannot edit They were installed into a My Documents directory named "My Virtual Machines" and that is where I copied them to from the directory in the original Windows XP pc. The applications installed in XP virtual machines require separate versions of Windows XP to operate. So that's where I'm at.I have some Virtual PCs running Windows XP that were created in Virtual PC under Windows XP. I haven't retried it today, but resetting the out-of-box-experience timer doesn't have any effect either. Hard shutdown and repeat, and it does the same thing. Hitting enter, sending CTRL-ALT-DEL, moving the mouse, all do nothing. When I click OK, it goes to a blank screen-light blue background with cursor. Upon logon, it again states that Windows must be activated before logon. Then I mounted an XP SP3 OEM CD to the VM, booted from it, and did an in-place repair of XP. I select "remind me later", and then it logs me off. I then try to change the product key using one of several XP Pro OEM license keys, and it indicates "incorrect product key". It then states, "Unfortunately we cannot continue as our records do not recognize this as a valid product.", and then hangs up on me. This is with the legacy network card attached to the VM, so it should be recognized by XP and getting an IP address with DNS and gateway via DHCP. I select Yes to activate now, and the error that comes up next is "unable to establish a connection with the activation server". "This copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on" is the message that pops up as soon as I log in. As hecgomrec pointed out, the issue isn't with virtualization (I have the instance of XP in a VM on the HyperV-16 server), it's with getting it to activate. I'd actually forgotten that I'd posted this, so I have a bunch of replies to go through. Do I need to just tell the client "sorry, you need to keep a Windows 7 workstation for this legacy software in XP mode", or is there some other sort of workaround? (Of course I can't find them again to post them here.) We still have the Windows 7 workstation with the original XP Mode still intact. I assume this is because I am trying to run a VM under a VM, but I'd found several sites that said it was possible. ![]() XP mode crashes with vpcc.sys (I think) BSOD almost immediately upon starting. Virtualized entire Windows 7 box, set up HyperV VM. No change, still wants activation immediately. Completed successfully but still insists on activation immediately. ![]() (I forget the error.) -Ran in-place upgrade / repair of HyperVed XP Mode using XP SP3 OEM CD. Attempting to activate via phone or over the internet fails. ![]() VM boots and runs but wants activation immediately, due to hardware changes, upon login. Ran disk2VHD inside of XP Mode, copied VHD to server, set up HyperV VM. Realized that XP Mode uses differencing disks. What I've tried (and had fail): -Copied VHD to server, set up VM. It has a server running Windows Server '16 with HyperV, so my intent was to get the XP Mode virtualized on the server. The client wants to retire the workstation but still have the legacy software available. We have a client who is running XP Mode with some legacy piece of software under Windows 7 on a workstation.
